Color Me Rad (and a discount code)

Color Me Rad was my first ever 5k (and definitely won’t be my last). When Heidi from Blogportunity contacted me about this exciting opportunity, I was quick to jump on it! On July 9, 2013, I ran my first Color Me Rad race in Pittsburgh, PA at First Niagara Pavilion and the rush of completing a 5k for the first time was absolutely amazing. I talked about it for the longest time (in fact almost two months later I still do and remember it and how much fun it was on days I am struggling to complete the 10k training program I have been following.



If you have never heard of Color Me Rad, it’s something you absolutely need to try whether you are a seasoned runner, beginner runner or even a walker. It’s a unique and fun way to get some fitness in. It’s not timed and not competitive, but it definitely is a whole lot of fun. At the Pittsburgh Color Me Rad, there were runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels. No judgement, just a good time! As you run through the 5k course,the color bomb squad tosses color bombs at you! Your white shirt (along with your pants, shoes, legs, arms, hair, etc…) become tie-dyed as you complete the course (don’t worry it’s easy to get the color out of your shoes, but I strongly recommend wearing clothes you don’t so much care about). A majority of color came out of my clothes, but you also need to keep in mind that I didn’t wash my clothes for a good 8 hours later. Also, I strongly recommend you wear white!

The atmosphere at Color Me Rad was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Everyone was there to have a good time, I don’t think anyone was there to run top their personal best. The music was great and everyone had a smile on their face. Plus it’s for a good cause, the Pittsburgh race benefited the Ronald McDonald House. The Color Me Rad shirt, tattoo and sunglasses are an added bonus. Plus, I was able to feed my shopping addiction at the Color Me Rad store, where I got some awesome socks and shorts!

I’d highly recommend getting together with a group of your friends and have some fun in the name of fitness! Pittsburgh-ers, the next closest race is in Morgantown, July 7th!

It’s safe to assume I have a problem…

Hey guys! I went to Niagara Falls  (the US side) and look how pretty it was….

This was absolutely beautiful! The Falls, a rainbow and the Maid of the Mist all in one picture. Isn’t this enough to make you want to spend a lot of time at the Falls? You would think, but this is where I am going to admit I have a huge problem. I went with my sister, sister-in-law and my sister’s friend (that’s a whole lot of sisters in one sentence!) and we spent a heck of a lot of time at this place….


The Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls. This place is a shop-a-holics’ heaven or worst nightmare. Depends on how you look at it. However, we had a ton of fun I managed to actually get a lot of Christmas shopping done. (We also seem to be starting an annual shopping trip for Christmas in the summer, each year we are planning on hitting up a different outlet center in hopes of finding amazing deals.

I can’t post a picture of what I got because I have plenty of presents in my “group” picture. However, here’s a list of the gifts I bought myself:

  • 2 Kate Spade Purses (I seriously have become a major Kate Spade addict over the last year)
  • A make-up kit for the Bare Minerals Outlet (this place has amazing steals)
  • 4 shirts.

They are now safely tucked in my semi-organized closet (last weekend the entire back rack of my closet fell out of the falls causing clothes, shoes and purses to fly everywhere. Thankfully my order from Hautelook came days later and I was able to use my sweet new organization gear to give my closet a much needed overhaul!

Hautelook Summer Beauty Bag

Look what was waiting for me when I got home from work today! My Hautelook Summer Beauty Bag! For those of you who do not know what Hautelook is you are definitely missing out! L.Erikson Grab ‘n Go Pony Compact: This is the cutest little compact of ponytail holders. One thing is for sure this beats wearing them on my wrist out of fear of being in desperate need of one and not being able to find one in my purse!

L’Occitane Shea Hand Cream: Smells great and appears to be very moisturizing.

Diptyque: A unisex scent…I’m undecided on whether or not I like it. It’s not bad, but I’m not actually sure I’d pay for a full size.

Whish Orange Crea Body Butter: I love absolutely anything that smells like orange cream. This is product I’d definitely buy. It happens to be a Nordstrom exclusive.

TanTowel: I love TanTowel and they are frequently on Hautelook. It’s essentially a large wetnap designed to give you even color all over. I currently have 3 boxes in my bathroom…I swear by it.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil: I love Urban Decays Glide-On Eye Pencil so I’m excited to try this!

LORAC Special Effects Mascara: A primer on one side and lengthening mascara on the other. I think this product definitely has potential! Can’t wait to find out!

Crown Brush: This is a travel brush set. I do lots of weekend traveling so this is perfect for me!

Miracle 10 AHA Cream: This cream is a skin exfoliate. I feel like my skin is really dry from the sun so I’m excited to give this product a try.

NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick: The texture seems great and the color is a coral-ish color. I love coral!

Mirenesse Lip Bomb: You can never have enough lip gloss! This product combines gloss, stain and lacquer in one.

This bag cost $20 plus shipping and handling. Overall, I am very excited with this bag and will definitely be on the lookout for more Hautelook Beauty Bags. I really like the fact that Hautelook lists the products when you go to purchase it so you know exactly what’s coming unlike monthly subscription boxes. Keep in mind, for $20 multiple products are full-sized including the lip stick, lip gloss, mascara, and lip liner.

Fitness Trends You Want to Try

Happy Monday! I’m exhausted after a late night driving back from the Pirate game in Cincinnati and a very traumatic hotel experience on Saturday night, I am in much need of some rest and relaxation. I don’t even want to relive the hotel nightmare…it was that bad! Have you ever checked into a hotel that was so bad (despite good online reviews) and was an absolutely disgusting nightmare? This girl has and we left within 5 minutes, which then resulted in a couple hour quest to find a hotel with an open room. How was your weekend? Don’t worry there was good parts to this trip…I’ll tell you about that tomorrow.

What are some fitness trends (or maybe not even trends but just things that interest you) that you are currently wanting to try?

I have some Beachbody Coach friends on Facebook. Every time I hop on Facebook, I must admit I am somewhat intrigued. Hence, the inspiration for this post. Here are my top 3:

1. Focus T25 from Beachbody. I really enjoy Insanity and would love to give this a try. I am all about getting it done in 25 minutes a day! If it’s quick, effective and challenging, I am more than willing to take on the challenge. Insanity was definitely a challenge.

2. CrossFit. It intrigues me still. However, I feel like I’d be absolutely terrible at it and probably provide anyone watching with good entertainment!
3. Barre. I think it would be plenty of fun to relive my dance days in a way!

Fitness Survey!

I used to be a huge fan of surveys, probably in high school. I honestly cannot remember the last time I’ve completed a survey. Here it goes!

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

Chocolate chip Clif bar and iced tea.

2. How much water do you drink a day?

Probably more during the week than I do on weekends. At work, I probably finish about 5 water bottles each day. On the weekends, probably a lot less. It just seems so much easier to drink a lot of water while working without really having to try. It’s especially easy when the AC is broken also! Old buildings do not make for ideal working conditions in the summer!

3. What is your current favorite workout?

I’m currently following a 10k training app. Most days it’s my favorite, but it’s kind of a love-hate relationship. It’s been way too hot for running. When that’s the case, I’ve been opting for a bike ride or a quick cardio workout indoors (often something I’ve found on Pinterest. What would life be without Pinterest? Seriously!)

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

I have no clue.

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

Dried fruit, nuts, Clif bars, ALT bars, yogurt…I really like snacks!

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

At work, normally a frozen pasta dish from Trader Joe’s, sometimes a Nutella sandwich, Subway, really it varies!

7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?

I’m all about equality when it comes to strength training!

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

Core training. I feel like it is so hard to get the results I want!

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

I love Little Debbie Brownies…I’ve been addicted since childhood!

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

Biotin…I’m trying to make my hair grow long! I’m in my late twenties and have been trying to grow my hair out forever. I feel like I’m going to be too “old” for long hair by the time it finally happens! Am I the only one who feels this way?


11. How often do you eat out?

Depends, maybe 2-3 times a week.

12. Do you eat fast food?

Sometimes. Does Panera count?

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

My boyfriend is more convinced I can complete a 10k training program than I am!

14. Do you have a gym membership?

Used to. Honestly, I feel like I’m more productive on my own.

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

I aim for 7.5-8hrs, but I am not a sound sleeper what-so-ever.

16. Do you have a “cheat”day?

I enjoy one sweet treat a day.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

Maybe a drink a week. I’ve never been a huge drinker. If I had the choice between sweets and alcohol, I’d definitely opt for sweets. Although this guy is rather enjoyable!


18. Do you have a workout buddy?

My boyfriend. I used to go to the gym with my brother’s now wife…at the time she was just his girlfriend!

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

More energy, better mood, toner body, a feeling of accomplishment!

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

Went for a run.

3 Ingredient Cucumber Chips

Hope you are enjoying your Saturday! The month of July has been absolutely crazy for me…lots and lots of weekend trips. In fact, I just finished packing for another trip and am getting ready to leave. Does anyone else hate packing as much as I do?

While browsing Pinterest the other day, I found this recipe and modified it some since I don’t own a dehydrator. I had some cucumbers and was looking for something unique to do with them. You’ll have to forgive me, I actually finished the cucumber chips before taking a picture of them…oops they were good!

Cucumber chips probably sound interesting or possibly even gross. To me, they sounded weird! However, I had all the ingredients I needed and some time to kill on the day I tried them. I was pleasantly surprised. Especially, since I am not much of a cucumber person.


1 cucumber

1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

1/4 teaspoon of salt


1. Since cucumber in extremely thin slices.

2. Mix salt and apple cider vinegar in a bowl.

3. Dip each cucumber slice in the mixture

4. Place on a cookie sheet and cook for 4 hours at 175 degrees.

5. Enjoy!

I tried to find a similar picture online, but didn’t find anything that quite looked like mine…a lot of individuals are making BBQ cucumber chips…I’m intrigued. However, did you know Lays makes Cucumber chips at least in other countries? Interesting!
