BoxyCharm September 2014 Review

Hey everyone! I randomly signed up for Boxycharm on a whim, when I saw a YouTube that showed the September box including a very generous size of the Harvey Prince Hello perfume. I love this scent, but it tends to be a little on the expensive side. So for $21, I not only got this perfume but also received four other full-sized products. My plan was to cancel after getting the perfume, but honestly for $21 a month this box is way to good to cancel. If you’d like to give Boxycharm a try, click here!

Let’s take a look at why I am so excited about this subscription box!

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss. This product retails for $19, which almost pays for the box itself! I love Tarte, so I was super excited to see this product. I got this lip gloss in a beautiful pink color called blushing bride. It has a vanilla scent, it’s pigmented and lasts a long time!

Coastal Scents Go Palette. This palette retails for $12.95, is perfect for travel and has a very nice variety of neutral eye shadows. They are extremely pigmented and can create a great smokey eye. What I really like about this brand is that it’s affordable. Whether you are just starting out or are on a budget, you can great great quality at a very affordable price.

NCLA Nail Laquer. I received this nail polish it a red-color that is perfect for fall as well as the holidays. For $16.00, this nail polish is long lasting, quick-dry and chip resistant. I went 5 days without chipping, which is amazing for me!

Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperlight. This product has absolutely beautiful packaging and retails for $22. I was extremely excited to see this product for a few reasons. I typically do not get a good night’s sleep, my eyes are rather dark to begin with and I am kinda a concealer/eye brightener junky. This product does a great job of making me look like I got sleep when I really didn’t!

Hello by Harvey Prince. This 10mL perfume is the entire reason I purchased this box! With Meyer Lemon, White Grapefruit and Satsuma Mandarain. This 10mL bottle retails for $29. I’ve tried this in another subscription box and love it. It’s the perfect everyday fragrance.

Splendies Review!

Hi everyone! I am very excited to tell you about a new subscription service that I signed up for this month. It’s called Splendies. If you thought subscription services are just for beauty products…guess again! Splendies is a monthly subscription service that sends you underwear. At first I was a little unsure of this subscription, but I figured I can always use new underwear especially after I just completed a major purge of my underwear drawer (I know it’s a little weird for me to be talking to my underwear drawer). However, I’m really glad I decided to sign up. For $12 a month including shipping, you receive three different pairs of underwear. They can be anything from cute to sexy to more plain and traditional underwear. Splendies includes all types of underwear — thongs, briefs, boy shorts, etc.. If thongs aren’t for you, you can opt to pay an extra $2 to receive three pair of definitely, not thong underwear.  Splendies recommends ordering a size up because they tend to run small. I was hesitant to go from a small to a medium but I’m glad I did because they fit extremely well.

Overall, I thought these undies were extremely comfortable and cute. The one pair was a little plain for my liking, but that’s okay. I’d say Splendies is a great and affordable way to keep your underwear collection fresh, cute and comfy.

Battle of the Subscription Boxes: Ipsy vs. Birchbox September 2013

I love trying new make-up and I love trying new make-up without having to shell out a small fortune to do so.  That’s why subscription boxes are so great!

This month I tested two different boxes out: Ipsy (formerly known as glam bag) and Birchbox (which I have subscribed too for the past three months). Month subscription services are $10 per month including shipping and handling.

Let’s start with Ipsy:

Starlooks Eyeliner in Obsidian

Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon in Rose Romance

It’s So Big Mascara in Black by Elizabeth Mott

Chella Highlighting Pencil in Ivory Lace

NYX eye shadow in Fantasy

Plus the black and blue make-up bag.

Overall, I am very pleased with my first month subscription to Ipsy. I love the colors of everything and feel like I could through this bag in my purse and take my day look to a night look with minimal effort. Minus face products, there is enough make-up in this bag to provide you with a complete look. The colors are exactly the type of colors I go for. I’ve never tried any of these brands but so far I am loving them especially the Chella highlighting pencil…I’ve been wanting to buy a highlighting pencil but haven’t gotten around to it. For $10, this is an excellent value of products I will most definitely use and likely purchase them later on down the road. Everything appears to be full-sized except for the mascara.

If Ipsy interests you, click here to get on the waiting list (I was only on the list for about 3 week, not bad at all)

Next up, Birchbox. Similarly to Ipsy, Birchbox is a monthly subscription service that provides you with sample, deluxe sized samples and full sized products from high-end cosmetic brands.

Amika Blow Out Spray

Dr Jart BB Cream

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Ruffian Nail Laquer in Hedge Fund

Overall, this was my best Birchbox to date. The products are all very useful. However, I feel like they could be a little bit bigger sample sized. It’s kinda hard to tell if you like a product if you only have enough product to last a few uses. However, I am very excited not to get any samples in foil packets! That is something I really don’t like.

If you’d like to check Birchbox out for yourself, click here (wait time is about 4 weeks).

Overall, I have to give it to Ipsy. These are products, I will 100 percent use. I can’t wait for next month!

August Birchbox Review!

Birchbox arrival day is kinda like Christmas, sometimes you never know what you are going to get! All and all I have really been enjoying Birchbox and will be continuing my subscription! If you love trying new products (or you are like me and don’t like to use the same products for long), I highly recommend giving Birchbox a try! Here’s what is in my August 2013 Birchbox:

photo

1. Whish Coconut Milk Correcting Gel. This gel is meant to correct dryness, unevenness and sun damage. It has a light coconut scent. I used this product once and really like it. I’ve previously tried Whish through Hautelook and instantly became a fan! I found this product to be rather smoothing on my skin are a day in the sun.

2. Whish Hair Inhibiting Deodorant Wipes. Another Whish product, yes! I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m a new Whish fan so this could be great. This product is a deodorant wipe that is supposed to inhibit hair growth. I feel like this would be a great addition to a gym bag or beach bag. Can’t wait to bring it to Ocean City with me!

3. Violet Oasis 100% Organic Argan Oil. I’ve never used argan oil before. I feel like my hair gets really oily quick so I’m not sure about this in my hair, maybe the tips, but it could be great for dry skin!

4. ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick.  I received this in the color Kitty and it’s a nice soft pink and designed to stay put. I’ve recently gotten more into lipsticks so I’m excited to see if this product holds up! I’m more of a lip gloss girl!

5. Miss Jessie’s hair products. These products are designed to help repair damaged hair. I cannot tell you how excited I am for these. My hair is so dry and so damaged!

Julep Maven Box Review

Lately, I just can’t get enough of subscription services. I’m testing them out and absolutely am loving what I am finding! Julep Maven is a monthly subscription service that provides you with nail polish and other beauty care items. You get three items in your month each box for $19.99, which is typically more than I’d like to spend on a subscription box a month, but the nail polish is well worth the cost!

This the second Julep Maven box I have received. The introduction box included two nail polishes and a cuticle cream. Often times, you can find codes for a free first box online so be on the look out for them! In this months box, I received two nail polishes and foot friction stick (it’s much like Bandaids blister block, which I love). Overall, I really love the nail polishes. They are in beautiful colors and are very long lasting. I got about 7 days without chipping, which is extremely impressive in my book. I haven’t tried the friction block stick yet, but I am very excited about that.

The other thing I really like about Julep is you can change your style. If one month you are feeling boho, you can get that box and the next you can go classic! The only thing that I have concerns with is the fact that I may never be able to use all this nail polish I’m getting especially since it is really great quality. However, I’ll definitely be sticking around to get some great fall nail colors.

I’d highly recommend trying out Julep for yourself. Click here.

Here’s a look inside my box:
